Welcome to Just Rolling On
An around the world adventure on a motorcycle by Ian Willcox
Why – Adventure has been in my veins since birth. The urge to set a challenge and the effort to achieve is what drives me forward and sparks my interest in life as a whole. I have long yearned to set out on a journey that was something more than a dash up a mountain or a sprint to the shops. Something that meant more than the achievement itself and most importantly something that would broaden my horizons and maybe even slow me down a little!. I have often been told that many of us dream of similar aspirations and the only barrier to making that dream a reality is you. I am fortunate to have good health and even more fortunate to have the support of my partner Tricia. Add opportunity to the mix with a dash of inspiration from many others already out there then there is no longer an excuse as to why not.
So here we are about to head off across the world for what I hope will be an adventure of a lifetime. Having been inspired by so many others I hope to add a little inspiration to a few myself along the way. Feel free to comment, cajole and critique along the way – and enjoy, I know I will……
Where/When – On August 17th I will fly out from Edinburgh to Brisbane to be reunited with ‘Katie’ (my traveling companion for the next 6 months and provider of much joy and probably as many tribulations along the way I am guessing), she’s a bike by the way!. The first 2-3 months of the trip will be spent criss crossing much of the Australian outback as I can, in dispersed with a few beaches along the way. I hope to traverse west to Perth before heading back to Sydney to see my good friends Nic and Neil.
After a quick service for both of us we will fly out from Sydney to Bogota, Columbia in early November. From Bogota the South American stage begins. From here I hope to spend some time in the jungle and mountain trails in Columbia and Ecuador before arriving in Lima Peru for the start of the Dakar 2016 on 3rd January 2016, the big objective of the trip. We will then follow the Dakar for the majority of the three week epic before heading back west into Chile, Patagonia and eventually Ushuaia. The final stop on the trip will be Buenos Ares from where we will fly back to the UK to be reunited with Tricia and my beloved Jazz, rest up and plan for Asia 2017.
